If That May Be
If only that truck had not crushed the edge of car
If only I had not felt the need to roam across the bay
And feel the need for salt water and fog
If only but I did and the truck did and the driver did
And here I am on a chair in a small house in a little street
If only I could drive again and see the white waves under dark clouds
The blue and green waters - the dark seals and brown gray otters
If only the warmth of the yellow sun glowed many summers
Perhaps the days and nights amid the fog and sun
The sounds of seals and taste of sweet chai
And the best of books and the sweet warmth of a dog
Perhaps those special moments are a gift - more than an if only
