I Went and Killed a Man Today
I went and killed a man today,
let his blood-life seep away.
I’d it again, if I could, it‘s true,
If you knew why, you would too.
No sorrow do I feel, nor shame.
I only wished he’d had more pain.
And suffered agony, so much more,
That left him shattered, broken and sore.
The policemen came to view the scene
As he lay there dead, on the village green.
My neighbours, cheered and wished me well
The truth they knew, I could tell.
In court, the judge, put on his black hat.
And stared down from where he sat.
At me stood there, without shame, and said
If I were you, I’d have done the same.
