I Watch and Wait

I watch and wait, my hope laid low
It's to the grave, that off I go
I envy youth, it's so carefree
But none of it applies to me
No longer do I want to grow

It's time for me to take it slow
The years have dealt me wicked blows
I've lost my lust for life, you see
I watch and wait

When I was young so long ago
My spirits soared, they overflowed
My nights were filled with parties, glee
The wine, the songs, agreed with me
But now the flesh is weak, and so
I watch and wait

We are no longer as young, and when we try to dance all night, the reality comes flooding back in a furious way! Thank you for the reminder in poetry form!

We are but alive by the pleasures and pains of time, left to watch and wait...

Sometimes it boils down to the pain, I guess. Thank you for your comment, DM. Best wishes, Gershon

this doesn't sound like you, gershon! it's an excellent poem, but i hope you don't really feel that way (although i can relate to no longer caring about the "parties, glee, wine," etc.)...
