I Tell You I Love You

i tell you i love you
in every way i can
with words sometimes
with gifts others
with little helpful deeds
a secretive smile
promise laden

i say I love you
with a wanton gaze
a playful squeeze
hands employed to tease
and lips on lips to please
my body language speaks
i love you

i say that i love you
a million ways each day
ways that come naturally to me
the message conveyed
communication complete
yet i wonder
do you hear me
loud and clear?

how i wish i knew
your language of love
teach me to speak it fluently
help me to nuance it
with all that you need
to make meanings complete
tell me
tell me how
to relate, communicate, punctuate this love
in ways that affirm
so you'll feel secure

teach me the language of your love
cause i tell you i love you
a million ways each day
yet futility fraught
i fear...
no gift, no word, no caress
no passionate pleasure play can prove
this...this...reality i live
this feeling, this absolute truth
that makes everything í've know
a petty peripheral
compared to you

i tell you i love you
oh, how i wish i knew
how to say i love you
in the language of
         you

There's never been a more fine or dramatic romantic language then that of your heart's honeycomb Poetess...the alliteration, "No passionate pleasure play can prove..." is delicious Eileen, and, "A petty peripheral compared to you...", that's awesome love language...J.A.B.

Glad to have you visit again, Justin. You know that I've always loved your way of expression in your poetic lines. You use alliteration quite extensively, and I'm glad these particular lines spoke to you. My poetry hasn't been that great lately, but I keep trying to write as I NEED to write to stay alive. Thanks for your kind words and visit.

A remarkable poem Eileen! My husband said he fell in love with me because of how I treated other people, and how I listened to him, and remembered what he likes, and because I am a good mother, and our electric attraction, if that is any help? You have listed all the ways a man likes to be treated so I would say the ball is in his court! : )

Yes...that is helpful, dear. :) From what you've written, I understand why the men fell for you! You're awesome, dear. Thanks for the insight into your relationship. I've been impressed by the book, The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. It's a powerful concept. Hugs, dear.

Thanks, WW. I appreciate the visit. Yes, sometimes there are many ways...but the other person needs something specific according to their frame of reference. Love...can be complicated.
