Notes About The Poem

"Beginning today, we will govern expansively and audaciously" the newest Mayor Mamdani went on today at the cheering crowd.  He spoke highly spirited, he who was sworn-in to represent the city of all cities and its people. An inauguration took place this New Years Day!

Marking the day.

I Swear

 Frigid temperatures filled the square
Rigid opponents chilled the air
 Deriding him a radical socialist
Unbridling the race to get him off a ballot list
The city was arm in arm, in protest daily
Whites, Blacks, Arab and Israeli
and what came up to all’s surprise
Mayor elect—Mamdani’s rise
Along came the 112th Mayor elect
Strong spent are the people who'd select
 Lines stretched around doters
Awaiting hours were his voters
Indulges in a city reborn it’s bagels and lox
Sworn in over the subway station docks
 Hand upon Islam’s holy text
A marvel of a man who’ll govern next
Swearing words of conviction and not of pity
I swear, to bolster and defend this dynamic city

Mayor Mamdani
promises New York City ~
a hopeful journey

An excellent write. I'm so glad I am poetical, not political. I can only believe in the former minus the AI infection on Soup.

Ty, CayCay! I see AI poems here & there, I really don't care because it doesn't affect my learning new words, forms & all the good stuff here. ;) Belated Happy New Year!

Anaya, a great poem!! I watched the inauguration and tears came into my eyes. He seems genuine to me. I see a comment below...what could possibly go wrong? We know that the very rich and powerful will do all they can to derail Mamdani's vision for NYC. They can't stand the idea that a fair and equitable means exists so that many more people can live a satisfying life. I don't suggest we make it impossible for people to become rich. By all means let people work hard and get ahead. But there is no reason for incredible excessive wealth and power. Fairness is a tenet of a democratic society (See conservative James Q. Wilson piece "The Moral Sense."

I feel the same, Duke. The Mayor spoke yesterday, "Nobody is above the law" re: the immunity given to ICE Agents. ICE agents do have certain legal protections, often referred to as "federal immunity," while conducting their official duties. They are generally shielded from prosecution for actions taken in the course of their work, but this immunity does not extend to illegal actions.

The Mayor spoke yesterday, "Nobody is above the law" re: the immunity given to ICE Agents. Minnesota's Mayor wants ICE OUT!

What is important to me, is the empowerment of those in need. (enough food & medical care & decent rent). This individual over the few who presently hold all the power--our hope. We must prevent America from becoming an "Empire" as well. Ty, best to you, Paige!

A fiery liberal spirit. Not since FDR, has a New Yorker been so innovative & celebrated. Your tenacity and spirit is to be applauded in the new year.

A fresh start with NYC's youngest new Mayor! Breaking News: Trump's take-over of Valenzuela for oil, he doesn't care about the drugs, otherwise he wouldn't of pardoned drug trafficker president of Honduras, who flooded AMERICAN streets with drugs. Most of the Fentanyl comes thru Mexico, yet no invasion there, NO OIL there! For the OIL, it's what Mayor Mamdani would say! On the bright side, Venezuelans who escaped his dictatorship, the one's Trump sent to El Salvador, are cheering for his removal. Once we were depending less on fossil-fuel, this administration once again proves it's greed for oil & starting wars! Trump's a champion of the oil & coal interests, & hates greenpower, gutted it! Ty~
