When I call out, no one hears me, When I laugh, no one joins in. I go out, but have no place to be. I watch the game, not caring who will win. I cook for two, only one will dine. I have a funny story, no one to tell. I sort through the mail, it is all mine. I leave the house, there is no farewell. I cry, but no comfort comes. I sing, no one there to make fun. Something to repair, I am all thumbs. At dawn, no one to share, the rise of the sun I wear a new outfit, no one to admire. I stumble, no one lends a hand. Not much written, no one to inspire. Facing the future, it is alone that I stand.

Grim, but this is how it is. People who live alone have to steel themselves --- or get (paid) help. It's why I got remarried at 45. ~ gw

Poignant and sad. A tribute to the many people who feel this way and some daily. It is really difficult to get them out of their houses when they get to this point. I know for I can rapidly change into one of these. Well written indeed!

Thank you, Caren. It is sad, I think it is more than loneliness.

You have described this so well Sandy. And it is hard to go through the aloneness with these things. A great poem, well expressed! :)
