I Smell You

Years have traversed
Pushing thoughts astride
Ushering in new desires
Sunsets may fade away
Siring newborn tomorrows
Yearning for blessed knowledge
I who feels the scent of love
On my death bed.
Organ plays the last verse
The hearse carries the last rose

Based on Jan’s response I now know the benefits of bringing flowers, it’s for our own protection. Well expressed Art.

Hello Art!! Outstanding free verse here. Very expressive and to the point. Yes, there is always a sort of unique smell that seems to accompany a person who is dying or has just died. Sad, but true. Enjoyed this one!! Cheers and Best, Gary

Fascinating poem Arthur, After reading Arturo's comment ... knowing my luck I'll just smell flatulence on my death bed and there are to be no flowers - prefer to have them now when I can enjoy them:-) hugs jan xx

I do believe the senses will be peaked just before departing...what smells we take might determine our destiny... Intriguing...

Good Morning Arthur. In my opinion this is poetry because the emotive factor is present and reaches the reader as does the voice and tone. Wonderful and expressive.
