I Can But Pray

I shut my eyes, I can but pray for this planet that we have damned. I worry for Earth's future day. In game of greed we choose to play, we fell forests to grab the land. I shut my eyes, I can but pray. On see-o-two we still delay, fudge footprint figures and pretend. I worry for Earth's future day. Our plastic waste goes far astray, a problem that is out of hand. I shut my eyes, I can but pray. The world's wildlife we now betray by driving species to their end. I worry for Earth's future day. Our greedy ways, on my mind weigh. It's time our thinking we amend. I shut my eyes, I can but pray. I worry for Earth's future day.

Many thanks. I love the villanelle form and pleased my effort was accepted. I often update things on poetrysoup as I see it as a learning experience. I write a piece, mull it over, and days later change it. For what we're doing to our precious planet, 'I Can But Pray'. Best wishes. Tony

I also worry. Touching verse. Left me wanting to act. Check out famous poet Wendell Berry and his acts.
