Notes About The Poem

I Should Not Have Looked

Four ornate wings pulsate in the grove
As tints of color brush its silky coat…
The flight of a tail quite speckled roams
To glitter in lime- green fabric, an ornament
Of effulgent afternoon-- this rare Luna moth
wheeling through vanished glaze of stones and pines.

Yet I linger on on , hushed by its unusual
Display. Oh I should not have looked too dazzled
At its softened motion, so glossy enticing:
For my hands quake at the thought
Of tucking it inside my jar... a fond collection.

I should have not looked with adulation knowing if I
bring this jewel home with me,
All seasons would lose a bug’s grandeur, wasted.

This elegance is not meant to be mine...
With joy , I toss it back to grace the woods.

This was gorgeous Nette and I love the outcome. To see such beautiful wanderers of nature is such a joy and we should leave them for others to see as well. Best wishes in the contest.
