I Set Aside My Faith

I set aside my faith
In my foolish youth
To rid myself of error
To seek the vaunted truth

The coming of Messiah
The letters writ in red
The entirety of canon - seemed
Absolutely dead

My scripture was the skeptics
Their works - theology
The principles of science -
The great eupraxsophy

Then in a sterling moment
Of all-surpassing grace
I met the risen Jesus
I met Him face-to-face

I stumbled – I stammered
Unsure of how to greet
The humble Nazarene - I
Had endeavored not to meet
