I See Them Everywhere

I could see stars everywhere, In every foggy corner, In the twinkling of their eyes The exchange of goods, services, money Some grateful and well-intentioned, others listless Cold and accusatory Selfish and scared I saw their lights come and fade Their loud horns go unheard Their curses and cries growing hoarse With raging resignation They forgot what it meant to live With the potential of peace To an unapologetic world of riddles and war I saw dark shades of death enshroud What was once their conscious eye Yet the stars, they glimmer on for us They still remind us of our mortality They still remind us of the hope of eternity You will never be forgotten, beautiful one! Your light will pour forth once again With showers of hope A bridging of the self To the bonding of our creator Will be the birth of better times I remember the joys in your smiles How you could barely contain it inside Till it exploded in giggles and guffaws Where are your impenitent resonances now? Where has that child gone to? You are so tired, I know Yet your life still inspires! And we are always afraid of the unknown Down here, on this earth Questioning our existences, our birth Why we are not where we want to be Why is He taking this away from me? Often forgetting through bitterness that we are Intimately connected And infinitely loved! What force on earth can devour that love? What bestial frown can wisp away its purpose? The learned and knowledgeable survive The brave are readied and standing, Knowing their worth with every atom of their being Can a star look down on the sun and say it is not their own? Who here is not created, that they cannot die? Who are you to live your life happily blind? Gaze not on other stars to find your own worth So long as to damage your visions of truth Cease comparing your rays to the one beside, Or behind, or above or below Listen, and be still Do not let yourself harden For no void can be filled that cannot open I see them everywhere, Precious beauties of every shape and shade Appreciate their shine as you would yours or mine, Touch the atoms of your value to every outstretched hand Be thankful for every moment you live So that every moment is not for nothing That every breath is treasured and true And every penny is honest and deserved Remember that peace is not limited to potential But it is an outcome of the purest love To stars of all colors and direction In all regions and realms Each one pouring light upon the same goal To the end of looming fears and perdition Toward new laughter and new hearts Now I beckon you, sweet child of your soul To accept your place in the sky To illuminate a soon iridescent earth Dropping ribbons of forgiveness, warmth and peace

Laura, I find this piece to be quite apt for the holiday. Love the use of stars to personify life, and you have some lovely lines, "Gaze not on other stars to find your own worth," stands out as one.
