Notes About The Poem

I Resolve

To truly love myself- this I resolve
To guard with zeal my tenderness of heart
Of every care and doubt myself absolve
And fortify and strengthen every part

To cherish and accept the inner me
Unleash and relish each forbidden dream
The woman that I am, to set her free
in wanton joy to bathe in passion's stream

I do resolve to be my dearest friend
To celebrate the wonders that I own
To vindicate my truth and not pretend
To shine around the goodness I’ve been shown

A short time I have left to truly shine
And thus I vow to make my living fine

Eileen Manassian

The person you need to care most about is yourself. Only YOU will be there till the end of YOUR journey. You must love yourself enough to stand for what you believe is right...enough not to be trampled on....enough to believe that nothing and no one can bring you down. It's a good resolution. One I plan to keep.

Wonderful sonnet! I love sonnets my friend ad this one simply shines. Walk that path and sing that song . Life is a pale whisper, a wind blown on a dreary day if one has not love of self and a great willingness to share that happiness with others unselfishly ! A7

Hi Eileen, this is a wonderful poem, will you please teach me how to love myself, I have always had this problem, never liking myself, perhaps if I keep reading this poem all the time I might convince myself that I am beautiful, you sound beautiful inside and out, thank you so much for sharing this lovely sonnet, take care...........Vera

Vera dear....I'm still trying to stick to this resolution. It isn't easy. This is actually a repost. If you read the original poem, you will understand some of my struggles. You can find it here: http://www.poetrysoup.com/poem/to_love_myself_529609 It is an ongoing process. Thank you for your kind words, dear. Have a wonderful new year.

Nobody is perfect, Eileen! Once we are capable of accepting ourselves for what we are, we will have peace of mind. It is jealousy that usually prompts hurtful remarks; these we must learn to take with a pinch of salt. By the way...love this picture, and the new avatar:) Hugs // paul

Thanks, Paul....for the wisdom you have shared in your post. I do believe that jealousy has a part to play in hurtful remarks. As long as I have people like you with me....I can face it. Thanks for the lovely comments on my pics. They mean a lot to me. Hugs

Thank you, Rob. It makes a big difference. I live in a society that is very body image conscience. Women here have plastic surgeries one after the other. Bigger woman have a hard time of it. However, I try not to let it get me down. I just try to let the many compliments I get about my looks outweigh the negative comments about my weight. I play up my assets...as best I can! ;) Yes...it does make a difference. Thanks for the visit. Wishing you all the best...

Thanks for the correction, Sweetie. I made the change. I'm learning to be more vocal about what I want and what I won't accept. A friend gave me advice that I'm trying to put into practice.....the advice of a professional. People will test your boundaries...You've got to set the limits right from the start. :) Hugs to you...thanks for the compliment. That photo was taken a week or so ago after our Christmas banquet. Yes...it's an ongoing process, but with the amount of self criticism I go through, I certainly don't need others to "help" in that area. Thanks for being a friend, Tim. Wish you the best in the new year.
