I Love Another
Our wedding would bring triumph to our mothers.
Rejoice, in black and white, in unity!
I wish we wouldn't quarrel, you and me.
In all simplicity, I love another.
I will myself to love your gleaming face.
It's caked with blush; why should I even bother?
I must conceal the facts! (I love another.)
A small confession throws me to disgrace.
I wander through the diamond-studded mist
that crowds, like cotton candy, 'round my head.
I'm woken by the squabbles of my brothers.
I dreamt of other loves; do they exist?
On soggy, grim tomorrow, I shall wed.
I'll say until I die: "I love another."
