Notes About The Poem

Socrates drank the poison knowing full well, that rather than be surrounded by pompous men; death seemed that much more appealing. Science and Philosophy are two sides of the same coin. ( I just made that up, sadly I think someone beat me to my own brilliance)

I Know That I Know Nothing

The little ones run away
Off to hide in Socrates cave
Run run run oh little ones
As I expand the Infinite dot universe
I lay down my spear
I shake my martini
After battle I hug my exotic genie
I bask in the glory and praise of the Greek Gods
The beauty of creation surrounds me
The eternal universe
Caressing quantum theory
As dark matter dances in my head
The big bang
I am the orator with no wisdom
I shall drink from the cup of knowledge
The poison shall set me free

Hi Andrea, dont you just love that? When I go on purpose to find some old poems of poets I like often I come to one I read before, goes to show how powerful a Title can be! Also I love reading poems a second time, sometimes over time you get a different feel of the poem! hugs!

I am the orator with no wisdom. This line describes many of us. But your whole poem is insightful. However, the poison does not set me free. I lives on and on... Allan

If it means what I think it means, it is certainly ironic (his way of thinking) A bit hard to fathom but wow, I loved the genie line and the final line.

Well, then, dear orator, as the world is your stage, might as well refine your vocal speech while we, the audience, sit back and enjoy and ruminate about what little knowledge we can all share while enjoying a cuppa. A fine sip you gave us there. Kim :)

Hello Arthur, I certainly endorse your poem here in every respect. A most wonderful write indeed!! I agree with Dave below: I think I would prefer exile and to be around to write for future generations. Socrates is/was quite interesting!! Best Always, Gary

Okay I admit, I have no idea who Socrates was, but I feel that this poem stands for someone who believes his level of genius was too enormous for the world, it sounded pretty arrogant to me that one would rather die than to be surrounded by the world and her parts. That is what I gathered from this, but I could be far off.

Ah well the life of Socrates and his student Plato are indeed interesting, and I think one could discuss them almost to eternity. Of course a poem, about such topics, is like the tip of an iceberg, it only wets the taste buds to know more. However your thinking in some ways is along the thinking of Crito, so you are in good company!

really the sacrifice of the child the big bang of the martini a smile a blink of an eye we know to enjoy the gift with satire if needed and a warm heart looking in the mirror of eternity a vortex of continuity with no escaping the smell of the flowers and the knowledge to rule the ignorance of the shitty gift to have to take a shit. my little drop of bitter in the tonic of gin
