I Just Found Out

I just found out
that my bubble of suburbs
is just as vulnerable
as the city's maze of dark alleys.
I just found out that my country
is as borderless as a shoreline,
that cruelty ebbs and flows
like the tide.
I just found out that a simple marathon,
a gathering of the strongest people
and the most innocent children,
can become a catalyst
for the darkest kind of evil.
Every morning, I turn on the news
with dimming hope...
only to find out
what I don't want to know.

Oh yes indeed Heather...We are so vulnerable and I think rather helpless to stop this madness...Also this evil phenomenon of mass murder in schools, malls, etc. is very upsetting...Beyond understanding...This poem nails it - Tim

I feel ya, Heather. As always, you put this together so well....not too much, not too little, but the perfect amount to hit me. It should do VERY well in the contest.

Heather....bless you for highlighting this tragedy so well. Yes...the world has gone crazy and it's always the innocent who suffer. Great write. The news in this part of the world is full of things we don't ever want to know. Hugs.
