I Hear Folks Sayin'

I hear folks sayin' they have the right To determine what goes into their bodies, They are putting up an audacious fight While scarfing down alcoholic toddies. We have no idea what’s in the foods we eat Chemicals and preservatives are so prevalent, While inking up our skin, thinking it’s so neat While performing a most dangerous stunt. We don’t like being told what to take Especially when it comes from Uncle Sam, But we eagerly turn to the government When we get ourselves into a financial jam. We take the pills our doctor prescribes And, frankly, some that our doctor doesn’t So why are we writing all these diatribes And taking medical advice from a cousin? If I have a question, I’ll trust Doctor Fauci, Who’s studied immunology his whole life Suffering through a tiny jab … an “ouchee” And cut out all the phony-baloney strife!

My daughter is an epidemiologist and she trusts him, so why wouldn't I? I agree with this one "If I have a question, I’ll trust Doctor Fauci, Who’s studied immunology his whole life" wholeheartedly! So much misinformation has lead people to mistrust the experts.

That is so true. My friend just told me that his doctors have told him NOT to get the vaccine. His doctors are at the Veteran's Hospital, so I don't understand. I just listen to Dr. Fauci and do what he says in this regard. I'd say your daughter would know and "she trusts him."

I agree! Food especially is full of chemicals. Even some peanut butter is genetically modified so why be hypocritical? Good write.

Can't believe folks are turning down the chance to protect themselves from this killer virus. When we were young we all had vaccines to protect us from polio, measles, tb etc, so why all the hoo haw over the covid vaccine. The conspiracy theorists have a lot to answer for. I wonder how your friend would feel if you got infected by him, could he live with himself if the worst happened. Tom

You know, Tom, I have wondered that, too. Of course, I am partially responsible, for I cannot bring myself to tell him not to come and visit. He is really my closest friend, and he is so helpful to me in so many ways. I just tolerate it.

First of all I enjoyed your poem. It does elicit a couple of questions. Why are others so concerned about what their fellow citizens chose to do medically? Believing I know the most probable answer, I follow with this question. Who's the one's being selfish?

Very easy answer, we are all on a boat, we each have a birth, you decide its your birth you have a right to dig a hole in the boat there, its your quarters, your rights, the problem is when we all in the SAME boat the logic does not hold. ( and as captain obvious here, the boat sinks) Who is being selfish also becomes rather obvious.

I'll try to respond as best I can. People are concerned about what others are choosing medically because what they choose not to do affects the whole community. I hear many doctors saying the life you save may be that of your family members, etc., friends and neighbors. I have a dear friend who refuses to be vaccinated. He visits me frequently, so he may be endangering my life because I am old, have chronic illness, and probably my immune system is compromised. It still doesn't convince him. As to "Who's the one's being selfish?" I can't answer that one, but if a simple immunization being refused results in the death of a family member, friend, neighbor, etc. and helps spread the virus, it would seem to me that the one refusing to be vaccinated is the selfish one. Okay, you asked, so I gave my opinion. Just my opinion, you understand, but I'm absolutely certain many medical people would agree with me....why? Because I ask them.

Aye to that! Those who complain about the government being in control…do you know of any who refused the offered money?

Can't say as I do, Jenna. In fact, that's what I say to those who insist that we are becoming puppets of the state. Are you back home? Hope you had a wonderful visit.
