I Didn'T Mean To

I didn't mean to hurt you
I didn't mean to crush you
You said you loved me
I took those as open words
I didn't believe
Believe a truly amazing guy like you
Would fall in love with a girl like me
I hurt you 
Caused you pain
Yet you claim you still love me
You say it wasn't my fault on what you did
But it is
It is truly my fault 
If only I didn't avoid you
I should've payed attention
I would've been able to avoid the outcome
I didn't mean for you to get hurt
But I'm a lousy terrible person
You disagree
But it's true
I didn't mean to
Mean to hurt you

Ernie J October 13, 2011 at 9:57 AM I'm reading a lot of self recrimination. The poem reads to me a lot of self blame and an inability to forgive yourself. Strong, compelling write.
