I Did Not Know
I did not know
It would be such a blow.
My heart strains and cries.
No matter what lies
To myself I tell,
It is in pain that I must dwell.
You and no other my heart and soul seek.
But they are met with a wall dark and bleak.
That is the way it goes
If the door to your heart you don't close.
False hope is what I had.
Maybe, just maybe I would be glad.
You felt it too,
In the way that I do.
From your eyes I could not tell,
Was it love, or did something else compel,
What I though might have been,
But did not know.
Now my heart
On the ground, a plate shattered.
You and me apart.
None of it ever mattered,
In the way I wanted.
My heart, if only I could tell, spared from this fragmented fate.
Forever will I be haunted,
By what I lacked, said and did too late.
To find some glue,
That is all there is left to do.
The pieces won't fit right,
A memory of you, that gives me quite a fright.
