I Can't Breathe

I can’t breathe still in my shackles no chance to escape my isolation cries of anguish emancipated from an awareness that is unfree the stain is but human made a long history of human trade Humanity dehumanised and put to shame.. I can’t breathe air is not for free I have to pay the fee the earth does not to me belong It is not my right of birth as if my breed had done something wrong! for water, I have to dig wells and pits as I am denied rivers, lakes and seas.. what shall I do to stay alive? peel my skin! for you to admire my drive?! How would I, hate, contempt, intolerance.. survive?! I can’t breathe deep are my roots my heart, a mine of diamond why don’t you see my immense wealth?! why do you still confiscate my breath?! and deprive my six and five of a mundane dream and desire of being decent and upright why I have to pay a disastrous price? my own flesh and blood a sacrifice! I can’t breathe Humanity still can’t breathe a “house divided” souls of shades moaning under sins weight a sacred “eternal Truth” deafened unfree souls kept pending a body bleeding a severe infection persisting In need of breath, Love and Trust I need to seal my chest bruises, heal my tortured soul and regain my Oneness my cause is just. I can’t breathe Long ago, a man named human had a dream the emancipation spirit into his mind remained seared “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” in the promised Earth with a mine of Justice “Justice, a reality for all of God’s children”.. Now, it is high time I won back my right and freedom I could breathe I have a mission beyond what you see of my skin let me breathe and unveil the beauty within I Can’t Breathe A song of a poet as peace deserted my mind and ache resided in my heart My words that couldn’t remain silent flowed to reach your Hearts. * My humble work is a voice I couldn't suppress and I wanted to share with my dear fellow poets and friends on Poetrysoup in the contest sponsored by Richard Lamoureux but couldn't compose it in time.

Your poem has created goosebumps all over me... 'I can't breathe' .... this heart rending cry shall send reverberating echoes down the ages. This is a cry heard through eons when ever the powerful trampled over the weak. The right to breathe is everyone's birth right. No body should smother it....'I have a mission beyond what you see of my skin/ let me breathe and unveil the beauty within'.... Very powerful lines! Besma how we think alike...! Love you dear and your great poetry !

What we cannot do in actions and serve humanity in their sufferings and dehumanization.. we have the loud voice of words that reach beautiful and amazing souls who can make a difference and help to better the world.. Poets of the world unite and raise your words aloud! Dear Valsa, so much obliged to you for granting me the grace of your beautiful soul and poetic feel to honour my humble poetry.. Thank you so much! My deepest regards and blessings. Love and hugs.

That was not the only one who couldn't breathe. The world is full of such stories, but there is no camera to tell you about them or maybe the message is not strong enough to reach all the kind hearts. We in Palestine.. can NOT breathe!

In all the corners of the world, Humanity is suffering and deprived of the right to life and breath.. and we know what is happening in Palestine but we cannot feel the pain you are all feeling and living.. we always hope and pray one day you will see the light of liberty and peace. Happiness to your soul, matta.. my deepest regards and blessings.

Besma, you have such an eloquent voice for justice and equality. You help the reader understand the pain of shackles and other cruelties that continue to persist in our modern times. Your image of the heart as a diamond mine is beautiful, for those who judge only on the surface miss the treasures deep inside. Your quotes are excellent reminders of other brave voices. Your poetry is insightful, enlightening and powerful, and encourages all to not give up the fight for equal rights. ~ John

Hi Besma, It is now high time that solidarity must exist. The dark ages were centuries ago, why do some think they have still the right to exercise the same evil power over another human being. A wonderful work of art Besma my soul sister - love you Jennifer.

the stain is but human made.. a long history of human trade.. Yes.. Truth in every word.. Once cherished and drank the nectar, but now feeling ashamed of.. Humans getting civilized in steps.. Oh human, live a life so that next generation will not be ashamed of you.. Great thought provoking verse..

This is such a beautiful heartfelt poem Besma. Being married to a Hawaiian with darker skin I get the disapproving looks of our union from strangers I always try to ignore. We are all equal in God‘s eyes and our societies should reflect that. But it seems we must battle injustice until that freedom is won. Bravo! Blessings xxoo

Blind hearts can't see or feel the beauty of people! can't recognise that there is a wealth beneath the surface! Learning just to judge and hurt others.. Our beauty and depth is in our differences.. We are supposed to be interdependent to achieve the glory of Humankind not to humiliate each other.. Beautiful souls are always the winners despite the suffering and injustice.. May God bless all of you.. thank you so much dear Connie for sharing your deep thoughts and feelings. My warmest wishes. Regards and blessings.

These are but feelings on what a great part of Humanity has been enduring! I am rather envisioning their hurt and agony.. I think it is far from what they are actually feeling and going through! Thank you so much, Arturo for the honour of your presence and great support.. My deepest regards and blessings.

Powerful verse Besma, and well written. White, brown, black or yellow means nothing to me and I would never judge anyone by the colour of their skin. To me, I judge a person what they have within, do they have love or hate in their heart? But as you say, we are all gods children. Tom

Indeed, none is to be judged by what is of surface.. deep within, each soul has their own treasure.. just we are to be patient, tolerant and lend genuine a heart to feel that beauty.. We are all "God's children" .. May God bless all Humanity with infinite Love and grace.. thank you so much, Tom for such a wonderful feedback and the beauty of your soul.. My deepest regards and blessings.
