I Can Only Hand It To You

Tapped messages go out direct
With phones it's an easy connect
Thoughts from a finger
In cyberspace linger
But touching's too much to expect

Hello Duke, This one hits deep and so clever yet layered with lots of truth. In a world of instant connection, the absence of real touch lingers. A poignant and thought-provoking piece. I wanted to go back and read some of your older poems. Back in those days you could have several thousand readers but not so much now. Brilliantly penned! Spring Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Andrea, thanks for checking this out. I have something to publish, but I think I will post it tomorrow. I'm thinking about how to frame the discussion. We are definitely not bored, and as you say, that is a good thing. I'm with you...I think boredom and depression and somewhat related. Later!!!

Sherry, you just touched my heart. This was from 2013--about a decade ago, and we were already thinking that our phones would change the way we all relate to each other. It's had some serious consequences for society and how we think.

Connie, thanks! I try writing from the heart and from experience as an observer of behavior. The world is changing ever faster and faster.

OMG, Kim--this was written at a time when I rarely responded to comments. I try to be much more responsive today. The world we live in is changing dramatically. When I travel, I see so many people using cell phones for communication while totally oblivious to their surroundings. You are always welcome. Inspiration is a funny thing, some moments just stand out and make me want to write. This hasn't been happening very often lately. Now, your poetry is wonderful, and I will visit you often.

Oops see above. There must be something strange about this site that causes me to respond in the wrong box at times. I have to laugh at myself.

Nice limerick, Duke. I should try my hand at it. You make it look easy but I find it hellishly difficult. Keep 'em coming, my friend. :)

Dear Duke, thanks for all the lovely comments and for reading so many of my poems today. I have to let you know, I will have been married 38 years this Aug, not 40, but I take poetic license to fit a syllable count! I am sure you know about that. We have to do it all the time with limericks!!! Let me see if I can find some limericks of yours I have never seen.

Hello Duke, I'm not much of a text expert. However, I think the phones are much easier. By the way, it was an honor reading a poem from a poet name Laura B... It was a true enjoyment in reading her dedication to you. I also came here to thank you for the kind comment on my poem. I needed the uplifting words... always~ LINDA
