The composition of Earth's atmosphere — mainly nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, and trace gases — has remained relatively stable for millions of years, thanks to a balance of various cycles and interactions.  It is constantly being recycled and replenished through natural processes, but never newly made.

Listen to poem:
Every breath I take is second hand expelled by some other man or beast, expelled by plants stomata, expelled from dirty earth, dank and foul. expelled from tips of waves on seas. Even on top of the highest mountain, or remote on the high seas, all the air there is recycled, for no new air has been created since earth got its atmosphere. the air is millions of years old and it smells as such.
