Notes About The Poem

I Am An Oak Tree

I am an oak tree and my sister stands near,
our roots intertwined for many a year,
we hold up the soil where sweet grass once grew
for all the young children to play and run through,
now we're a pasture for cows that will graze.

Twin Oaks we are named by a road that runs by
as we still lift our branches to clouds in the sky,
and remain unchanged in the landscape of things~
though folks barely notice in their rush to catch rings
of glittery gold in life's tough tangled maze.

Nothing like the strength and sheer grandeur of a magnificent old oak tree and your poem with its wonderful imagery does it justice! Just love the first line ….the togetherness and bond of sister oaks! Belated Congrats on POTD Chetta! Debx

Hey Chetta, Congrats on POTD, steady and grounding, like standing under the shade of something strong and timeless. I love both tenderness and resilience for they carry such quiet power. A beautiful piece. Autumn Blessings, Chetta, Daniel

Thank you. It was fun to write. I based it on two oak trees near where I live on Twin Oaks Road!
