I Am Alive
Every morning, I wonder:
Why do I always wake up?
What good did I do yesterday,
To be alive today?
Every time I eat, I wonder:
Why am I given food all the time?
What good did I do in my life,
To deserve such grace?
Everytime look at my family and friends, I wonder:
Why do I have such good people beside me?
What good did I do,
For them to be by my side?
Everyday, I wonder:
Why am I living?
Despite the things I did that I shouldn’t have, and
The things I didn’t that I should have,
Despite the thoughts I had, and
The thoughts I had not
Despite the judgments I made, and
The judgments I made not
Despite the things I took, and
The things I did not take
Despite the things I gave, and
The things I gave not
What good did I do,
To be granted a life
On earth?
Surely, there must be
A reason for me
To be alive in this world
I could have died in my sleep
I could have died of hunger
I could have died of pain
But I did not
In this moment,
I am alive
I am breathing
I can still do
The things that I have to.
I can still laugh,
I can still love,
I can still be grateful,
I can still forgive and apologise.
I have to do good things in this life
Because even though I deserve nothing,
I am still alive.
