Hydroplaning
just the side of a hurricane’s thrashing
the summer deluge beats down upon us &
on this night in question you get behind the wheel,
peeling out of the parking lot & flicking on your
high beams,
bent on destruction you slam your right foot down on the pedal
and the car splashes through the puddles on the way to the light
rounding the corner
taking that heavy left
but this time the car just won’t do what it’s told &
the back end goes sliding around in front of you---
SMACK!
like a slap in the face your reflexes kick in
you flinch &
your eyes bug---
the spinning, twirling & shaking
all happens in a flash
thrusting you to the other side of the road & round into the grass &
gravel,
tires grinding into the dirt,
tearing up the ground.
