Hush Now
Hush now, my sweet angel,
you needn't fear the dark.
Let mommy tuck you in
as you dream of the park.
No more silly stories
of being scared at night.
It's merely a bad dream
everything is all right.
There are no bogeymen
what you heard was a rat.
And other strange noises
are probably the cat.
There's just daddy and me
within this house, my love.
And you are as safe here
as in heaven above.
So, no more shrieks and screams,
what will the neighbors think?
And daddy steals a kiss
with a smile and a wink.
You try to avoid him
feeling lost and forsook.
And start to cringe inside
when he gives you that look.
But mommy merely smiles
as she turns off the light.
And you wait for the pain
that comes late at night.
