Hunger and Pride “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.” “But I’m hungry,” cries the wolf, Snarling to intimidate me. “Take the bone; I don't want it.” And the wolf ungratefully does. And for the time being, is satiated. From inside the cage, The wolf peers out, as if at a standoff: Wily and wry and unapologetic. And I look in, mesmerized; Into its burning eyes and at bared teeth. “O Canis lupus, trust me. “You live in the moment, Unable to comprehend That I want to be your friend.” And it cries, “Let me go!” “O Canis lupus, I can’t set you free. You will kill and devour the sheep.”
