This is a poignant reflection of the human condition. The succinct, chilling lines, delivered in a matter-of-fact tone, convey the reality of humanity's nonchalance toward the outside world. Far scarier than arguing that the world is theirs, they simply assert it, dismissing any contest. I love how the presence of a second voice (perhaps God) is acknowledged in the first 2 stanzas, only to disappear after: this is a clever way to represent humanity spurning other beings' claim on Earth.
