It breaks my heart how so many people are caught up in this pattern, never understanding they can have a better life. So much truth in a short, concise poem... Great work, my friend!

If she's unwilling to spent money on new furniture, could she at least take an old piece and spray paint it an awesome new color (add on funky new drawer-pulls, etc...), or get something re-upholstered in a bright fabric that she likes? Pinterest is LOADED with ideas for this sort of thing. Really, ANYTHING would be better than living in that dull, self-imposed, brown-and-black prison!

I have my head-bumping moments with my (rather opinionated) husband over how we decorate our house... but I can't imagine not owning even ONE piece of furniture that reflects "you" & brings joy to your heart. So sad.

Thank you Rhona. I have a friend whose only furniture is things she has inherited from her relatives. She said to me one day, "I have never gotten to choose even one piece of furniture myself." Her entire house is dreary browns and blacks except for her Caren wall. She has about 12 of my paintings which are done in NEON. NOTHING else in the house goes with! I have urged her to choose ONE piece of furniture, I have offered to go with her. She is 71. She does not want to waste the money on herself. So sad to me.
