Notes About The Poem

How Much For One Night

To kiss moist lips and taste their sweet desire
Then see the need, that want, through lust filled eyes
How quickly sparks ignite a night on fire
Flame so intense, it burns out at sunrise

The morning after comes with a disguise
Complete with attitude of "just be nice"
You flash a smile and paint him with white lies
One night of self indulgence has a price

How much will it cost you to roll the dice
What is the worth of one's own dignity
Or serve that dignity with bitter spice
And call the dish "unwanted pregnancy"

Be careful when you chance a little kiss
Most times blind Cupid shoots, his arrows miss

You write with great heart Daniel in a way that informs, doesn't preach with a message and questions that are succinct, allowing the reader to ponder for themselves. Terrific writing.

Lot's of truth is spoken in this well written sonnet Danny, too many abortions, I heard that 1 billion abortions have happened worldwide in the last 30 years, for me one is too many, bravely said. I wrote a similar one Promiscuous passions pretense, similar vein, don't know if you saw it, was a while ago, although I like your better!

Another great sonnet--and another favorite, Danny. Yes, there are consequences to our behavior, and sometimes innocents pay right along with the guilty! Janice

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against sex. I simply think one should wait until after marriage. I know it's a little old fashioned but I think it makes the marriage bond stronger and it's not as likely to wind up as an abortion. Thank you for reading and commenting:)

A lovely sonnet which gives the readers food for thought, Danny. Nowadays naïve young ones think that MAP is an all problem solver!! Regards // paul

Yes, very sad, Paul. Just a little reminder to be responsible. Have a little restraint. Sex is the easy part of love.

How much is the price to pay for one night, one immoral act of any kind should be the loss of integrity, and a guilty conscience. Unfortunately, many have no conscience. You've brought up a good topic for awareness, Daniel.

Thank you, Lin. It is sad how one night of self indulgence can turn a woman into a murderer or a single mom. Even if she doesn't get pregnant, she still has to look in the mirror. That's a pretty heavy price!

The price to be paid for one night can be an unplanned pregnancy that either ends with an abortion or they go ahead and have the baby which can also lead to other issues ...many many years ago my mum worked in a hospital and was present when an abortion was performed at about 23 weeks and the 'baby' cried ... she was absolutely heartbroken:-( It has always stayed with me:-( hugs jan xx

Thank you, Jan. I personally believe abortion is wrong but I also believe it is a woman's right to decide. It is my belief most men don't care because they do not want to pay child support for 18 years. Of course these are just my opinions.
