How Dare We Ever So Boldly Speak Out

How Dare We Ever So Boldly Speak Out

Let me write in obscure and chaotic words
stirring waters tepidly unknown
Yet my spirit refuses to admire such birds
or the massive flattery they are now shown
Why yes, some of us write from poetic hearts
with passion and not merely for fleeting praise
We that sail the seas, using understood charts
are now thought to be in an insane craze!

O' that we dareth to sparsely use archaic words
in poems as way of joining with the past
O' what folly, not wanting to be in a modern herd
or be afraid of those that so love to lambast
Cry thee, to thy Gods of confusing adulation
while we carry on in our simple ways
Content with depth, not writing for modern adoration
full of faith that truth and heart in poetry pays!

Robert J. Lindley, 4-27-2017

Note- Old poet, simple slam and quite tired of elitist criticisms
of poet novices, true hearts writing in understood words and
some that seek to exalt themselves by tearing others down..
Yes, this is a slam, but one done in a simple, reserved and more poetic style.

Thanks one and all for commenting. Nobody that uses such tactics has responded to this poem, at least not yet. John, your reply gave me a much needed smile my friend... I am afraid that I am far too mild to be a rebel.... Yet I will speak out on occasion...

Good Afternoon Robert. I applaud you and your entry along with this message. No entry or no author should be torn down in any way. We are at all different levels with this craft. Poetry is meant for enjoyment and to enhance a heart or soul. However, I know I am naive in thinking that. We all have had our share of words and inappropriate thoughts. Whenever I turn to one of your entries I always see hear and read poeticness and poetry. Always are you a solid writer. Enjoy the day.

Rhyming Poetry is an art in itself, I personally feel that its so much harder to compose a poem in rhyme. Oh well so be it, I'm out of date, but there is something to be said about Vintage and Classic, it has Style. i certainly love yours, don't ever lose it,and bow down to pressure. A Super 7++ for this Robert.

Dear Robert, I've never read a classier slam. I've been told my love of rhyme is outdated. To that I say, "Pish Tosh!" Rhyming poetry will never be out of style, but it takes a person with style, like you, to put that kind of person in his/her place. I applaud you, my friend.

Hear Hear Lin:-) I love to write with rhyme and also humour which is sadly lacking on the site and I will never take notice of my mockers and blockers ... I'm here to stay!:-) hugs Jan xx

Bravo Robert! I can relate so much to what you say and recently I wrote a slam on my experience of criticism of my 'simple style' especially when I first started posting here. :-) hugs Jan xx7
