How Are You

I opened the door
and let the flood roll in
all I said was how are you
a plain simple answer
would have sufficed
but no- here it was
the whole truckload
of ungodly manure
dumped at my feet
piled so high up
my nose and ears
were full of it
not once but twice
and come to think of it
it’s every single time
I doubt I really need this
it isn’t sane or healthy
remembering I’m trying to
unclutter my own mess
clear my own backyard

Been there, along with forgiveness it's tough to handle at times. But then i remember sometimes people just need someone to unload their souls to.

Lending an ear makes them feel better.

That is the way that it often goes; you never know when you're going to get a big splat of manure from someone. You've summed it all up, very well.

Wow! This really speaks to me as an ESL teacher and someone who has learned several languages as an adult...I've tried hard to convey to people that "How are you?" often = good morning, and NOT an invitation to unload... You have really captured a truckload here. Great write! Best wishes, Gershon

LOL glad it spoke to you and doubly glad that you are getting the message out there that a simple FINE will do often times. Thanks for the most appreciated visit and comment, Gershon.
