Horoscopes
When salt water is rising in my lungs
While the rest of me sinks so deep
That the waves are stormy dreams
Screaming out their lively spirals
While I watch from the deep blue
My numb fingers trailing through seaweed-
When smoke is rising from the fires I set
Before I woke up and realized
That the azure sky could quiet
The rising plumes of phoenix breath
(once a slash across the blue)
Now just pitiful shades
Lost against the blank grey-
When I am given everything
And somehow still feel nothing-
I look up to the untouched serenity of the stars
And imagine that I am connecting them together
Weaving my own tapestry from long-dead fires
And making something new.
