Hoping Against Hope

I hold on tightly to all that I hold so dear
Hoping against hope she sees me near
I wonder if she befriended me for reasons facetious
Or is it because she had no other friendship
I clasp onto this with a rock iron grip

Hoping against hope shes not my friend for a day
Withered by life and bruised by many a past dismay
I walk morosely towards my friend with her back to me
Unintentionally I hear the words she spat out . . . about me
Hi I say, how are you doing dear friend of mine
She turns in guilt, to find me bathed in a smile
No matter she was my fiend for a day
To find my truth this is but a minor delay

Hoping against hope I find my lifes true worth
I grin and smile, all pretended mirth
