FGM is a horror, I think us Canadians have heard more about it than most, perhaps because of new immigrants trying to continue their "culture" here. Well said with few words!

I think you may be right, culture migrates with the people and Canadians may have a sensitive moral compass. It's been on my radar for over 20yrs, as a twenty someth'n feminist, the most impacting literature I found was written for the medical field, a how to help respecting culture. Simply declaring it abuse doesn't help, that just sends it underground. I could go on ;) xomo

Unlike your subjects, your words need little adornment. And the effect is a lot more piercing. Arresting! :)

Thank you so much Bernard! ...this one may be piercing to the point of off putting, but such is the subject :)

Hi Maureen , You have such a gift. Not many can write a few words and say so much. It was well written and thought provoking. The title alone caught my attention. Well done:-) Alexis

I always wondered what the point was.

In a word, possession.

You can pick any topic and make it intriguing and enlightening. You give us a few words and we know what you mean and they say more than one hundred pages ever could.

I want to say "marry me" but my boyfriend would object. Thank you James, for your kind words always, you make me feel heard. A lovely day to you my friend! xomo <3

I think this can be interpreted different ways but none of them a good thing, so you got your "point" across with razor slicing precision!!

hmmm made me think of body piercing in a sensitive area for women - or a statement against young girls being circumcised against their will but I guess my interpretation is probably incorrect. A thought provoking poem Mo:-) hugs jan xx

Jan you are absolutely correct in your interpretation. In my twenties I was preoccupied with FGM, made my young feminist blood boil; I did show a couple paintings on it, this the first time that I have written about it. I couldn't ask for better than thought provoking, thank you dear xo

Well, only you can be so creative..mutilation..does adorning relate to opposition?..you achieved your objective Maureen..making readers think.

In my mind it does, of the "purification" cut, the stark opposite would be adornment. Thank you Vijay, thinking is how cultures can change. I know I went a little farther out there even for me with this one, your kind comment that much more appreciated. xomo

Hmmm...I'm trying to get my head around the title. If it means what it seems like then when I was on the prowl, that sort of thing made chicks seem more "possible". I'm just sayin'......80)

Well if you're already seeing what's under the hood, next logical step is going for a ride. ;P

Why mar something so pure. A number of visions go through my mind. In few words, powerful. Maureen, Adding to my favourites.

Thank you Leanne. FGM has taken up space in my mind for years, I obsessed over a painting on the topic that took me a near decade to complete, a decade hence forth I finally got some of it out in words. It's still there :) thank you again for the fave <3 xomo
