Home From the War
Stars were bright as he rode toward the valley
Cars formed a chain on the road down below
Bars flashed their neon near their closin' time
Wars he put behind and he'd leave it so
Mist from the pony's nostrils spoke of cold
Kissed by the frost but never by Nicole
Missed by the town but not by his true love
Grist for the grinding he knew was his soul
Clear came the recall of rain filled trenches
Near to his heart he had kept her letters
Dear to his future she filled up his mind
Fear never came to shackle like fetters
Then home to her arms had never happened
Men in her life had grown to be legion
When things such as this occurred he had learned
Grin - pat the pony - ride from the region
