Home By the Fire

home is where raspberry scones are served
where the sounds of cracks and snaps motion you
to become in tune with the chattering fire

home is where the cat sits on her quilted chair
letting you know you are a guest and she is the lady
of the house and is not about to give up her royalty.

home is where you felt bonded with the nest
where you became acquainted with the warmth
of love that nurtured you over the years

home is still here
and the scones are still warm by the chattering fire
