Home

Home We gathered all the kids next door to go to Thompson's field and play. School was out and the sun was too, We could stay till daylight fades. But when Jess hit Johnny with his own ball and he couldn't help but cry… He said,” I'm taking my ball and going home”, But that was not goodbye… Refrain: When we're in trouble or we've been hurt and need to cry on a shoulder that we know… It seems there's one place we all want to go. When everything else is striped away, and all we are left with is alone… *That's when,... with skinned up knees…yes that's when we, only want to go home. It's been 15 years of wedded bliss But just lately, not so much. Jess cries and yells and reaches out …but Johnny seems so out of touch The final straw came when he discovered that she had strayed… He said, "I'm packin' my bags and leaving you" and caught the first flight home that day. ** When we're in trouble or we've been hurt and need to cry on a shoulder that we know… It seems there's one place we all want to go. When everything else is striped away, and all we are left with is alone… *That's when,... with bended knee…yes that's when we, only want to go home. Well Jess and Johnny, they made up, and their marriage became so strong The Next 40 years brought so much happiness ,nothing could go wrong But then he got sick, she broke her hip, to the old folks home they went Johnny said, "Jessie is my Home now" and climbed to her room with his back bent When he slid into her narrow bed they held eachother tight With tears of joy Johnny said," now I'm home and I finally feel all right... With you by my side you know we'll never be alone" And that's how they were found, in eachother arms, when God finally brought them Home. ** When we're in trouble or we've been hurt and need to cry on a shoulder that we know… It seems there's one place we all want to go. When everything else is striped away, and all we are left with is alone… *That's when,... with such weary knees…yes that's when we, only want to go home.

I like how your poem poignantly explores the theme of "home" as a sanctuary and a place of emotional refuge throughout various stages of life. The narrative follows the lives of Jess and Johnny from their childhood into old age, illustrating how the concept of home evolves but remains a constant source of comfort and healing.
