He was five And I was ten I loved his heart His soul and gentleness He had my heart From the time I met him When Mama brought him home With his bottle of milk I worshipped that child His yellow hair and blue eyes Smiling into mine Lighting up my thoughts Then a doctor said “He has to have surgery” Promised it would be easy No reason at all to worry Mama and Daddy took him in For the operation Stayed there with him for the time It took to know he was ok I stayed home and waited Never worried for a moment God would take care of him He was such an angel, my brother Then Mama and Daddy came in Pale and swollen eyed I didn’t have it in me to ask I could see it without a word spoken Little brother died that day And for so many years Holding back tears Got me through the pain and grief This or That, Vol 5 Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Edward Ibeh July 29, 2021 (This is my pastor's story.. I'm just retelling it for the contest - I haven't ever had a brother)

So sad Gina, the only consolation you have is that he's in a better place and I believe that one day you'll be reunited in paradise. Tom

You just made me cry, Regina, a heart ranching verse to hear a baby has been lost. Good luck in Edward's contest.

So wonderfully written; sadness which did not seem too sad.

Oh Gina! I’m sorry you ever had to lose your much adored baby brother! That’s a loss that never really goes away. You wrote a poignant poem about it. People who lost any child in their lives should read this.
