His Knees
Lord, as I look into Thy face,
My eyes behold Thy grace.
I feel the power of the cross,
As I see my fallen loss.
I am in a strange land,
With only One hope of return.
He is an outcast of the deserts,
Who wore out His sandals,
Making men's heart's burn.
He filled them with transforming words of life,
Which gave them power to realize,
How and where to go, in order to make it home.
He knew the way, because He had paved it.
But there were too many serpents,
Thorns, and nails in the way,
Which made it too hard.
And so with love and agony He said,
“I’ll take these for you.”
And He became the serpent,
Took the nails, and wore the thorns.
Then with these, He said, “Come, follow me.”
And with this, he carried His cross among the scorns.
But it all began in a garden, where He cried out, “Please!”
His love for us is pure, and He wanted all to be free.
And though He was the King of everything,
It brought Him to His knees,
As He fell on His face, pleading our case.
Now He says, “Keep your eyes on me,
And think of me always.
I am the way, truth and life.
“I will feed you, carry you,
Heal you, and keep you bright.
Let me give you wings to fly.
I died to live with you,
And I'm right here with you,
I'll make all your dreams come true.”
