Him I Did Kill

I felt a small flutter
   upon my cheek

Now half asleep
   when my movements are weak

But then I felt
   that bite on my neck

I jumped from my bed
   and screamed "what the heck?"

I threw back my blanket
   and found what I dread

A big ugly spider
   was sharing my bed

He wasn't moving
   he looked very still

In case he's just resting
   him I did kill !!

( A true story) (what form - besides rhyme - is correct? Anyone know?)

Very catchy! Spiders are scary. I also have trouble finding which form my poems fit into because they are mostly derived from what I am feeling at the moment but I usually just go with free verse because it usually is a lot of words. Please keep sharing, I love your work

Thank you Laken, that is a nice compliment :) I did a bit more reading and learning form and even changed what form I used on some of my entries. but... sometimes I still have to choose when they fit in more than one. I will be by to visit you again :)

Not all poetry forms existing are listed here. And that's ok. This poem of yours you can keep under the category Light Poetry, as you have already, because it is. You can also choose for rhyme because it rhymes :) It's sometimes debatable what to choose, it's hard.... For instance I love to write Blank Verse Iambic Pentameters. But then what form do I choose? I can choose either Blank Verse or Iambic Pentameter, but the two together is not possible. Not an easy choice.

Exactly, that is what I mean. Sometimes one writes something specifically in one category, but so often it happens that it's a mixture :)

Hi Darren, I did go and read some more on different forms and I agree, this as well as much of my work fits under Rhyme, but some also fit in other categories. I guess in that case I get to choose. It doesn't matter to me anyway, I write what is in my head and never thought it had to be put in separate categories. I am just now learning about form since coming to the site. Thanks for the info :)

Please don't take this the wrong way. But I can see in a number of your other poems-sonnets, quatrains-you listed the wrong forms and none of the readers or respondents choose to correct you. Atop the page under the dictionary tab you'll find a listing of poetry forms and examples. I hope this helps. As for this poem lines 2 and 4 rhyming, combined into 4 line stanzas would most resemble a quatrain (?).

Thank You Connie. I have been reading about the forms, but am still unsure on much of my poetry. Most of it is rhyming and fits in that category ok, but I know other forms will also apply. I just don't know enough about it all yet. I ALWAYS appreciate helpful comments and I know you are right. I think many people don't comment on such as they are afraid people will take being corrected as negative, but trust me, I will not. Thank you for reading and commenting :)

I can't help you with picking a form, I really have no clue (oops, did say that out loud?). Love this! Funny and easy to relate to!

I don't know, is there a form called Spider Killer Poetry? Lol :) This was funny Lenna and I know that feeling of something crawling on your skin while you are trying to sleep. This was fun to read and so well done. The title had me thinking and then as I read it became clear. Really nice my friend.

haha, Thanks Chris. After I got over the disgust I felt and knew it wasn't poisonous, (brown recluse here) I kept thinking of how people react to spiders and it can be really hilarious !!! My oldest daughter has extreme fits over spiders, even the tiniest ones, and sometimes SHE is more dangerous by her actions than most spiders are !
