Highway Posts

Highway Posts As I travel through my twilight years, I see posts on a long winding highway And post holes empty as yet though I ask you to let me fill them with lights That shine on the dark ones with gratitude. For every post that is blackened Or bears a flippant sign, You taught me more love even when The anger or pain came first. How I thank You for the life you planned And protected me through my foolish sinning, The consequences that you spared me, That were most deserved. This Sunday afternoon You have urged me To write to You and not sleep, To write for You gave me that desire, To tell who reads, I desire to inspire. Inspire by telling the story of your Kindness, Remembering how You have saved and are saving my lives, And give me grief for those I have lost, Grief that has tempered my soul. To learn to say “we” not “I” For never, never were “We” alone.
