HIghway of Hope

parched was the highway of hope
         starved, the pathway of promise
drained was the river of riches
         stained, the empire’s new robe

     reeking of sweat, enervated muscles
         peeking at failure, ghostwriter’s orbs
     plagued with penury, artistic lament
beacon of timelessness, the wind rustles

Nicely written (learned a word, "penury"), but I'm going to have to think about this one, but I can tell there's trouble on the highway of hope!

Sounds like you have doubts about our present administration? Time, assuming we have enough left, will tell.

Oh this feels like a lament from a grief-stricken vision! How melancholic and poignant such sight is? When misery prevails everywhere and there is no hope left.. "peeking at failure, ghostwriter’s orbs plagued with penury, artistic lament" Sigh that is soul-wrenching! You've very expressed the emotions in a very moving way dear Gershon! Indeed, the beacon of timelessness... I could feel the eeriness within every line! very heart-touching! sending you best wishes always ~ 💫✨
