*Note: this poem was inspired by the work of Amanda Gorman, from her amazing piece, 'The Hill We Climb'. My thought was to add another chapter, 2 years later, that would touch upon the nation's experience, and of course, my personal political frustrations.

Each day reaches out with a sunrise, Stretching the horizon of hills and fields. While clouds may deceive the brightness, Its warmth pierces through til' it yields. As much of this heat becomes friction, Rising temperatures find many to burn. Our sights may look to some moral high-ground, Cooling the passions and hatred in turn. This lofty search has seen a lengthy work-in-progress, Between the legal and regal soldiers that prepare for the fight. And whether the battle for freedom of speech is absolute, Or does the truth get to weigh-in when it's right. This is why the mountain ahead is steep and dangerous, Because those slippery-slopes lead to a man's kingdom above it all. And while the path is cluttered with loose rock, A courageous climb must continue, without fall. Since this land has no part of an empire, That sees a former president who wishes to be king. And regardless of any avalanches that might delay, We'll reach the pinnacle, where freedom and justice will ring.
