HIGHER LOVE

If I couldn't please you anymore Would you still lavender love me Or would your heart drop on black floor Would you still hazel hug me Would you still bring me red roses Could you rejoice in being friends If the intimacy department closes Would you still try to hold holy hand Would you feel disappointed and blue Would you turn away from our blond bond There's an elephant in the room Would you seek peace in a sacred cream calm Would you believe our love was a fail Simply due to my new dedication Would you try to meet me where You found my new dedication I'll never tire of your fire I lived for it many a day It is still you I desire But in a different wholesome way I am saying love is forever Even when one of us reaches higher We have a bond that will not sever Corinthian Agape type desire So it is a kind of jest To ask you such a thing When we have been so blessed With love the heart can bring If I stop an important part Will you wither like rose inside Will you take back red heart And follow me and fuchsia find There is a holy place of love That plants a painless peace Once only day dreamed of Following pure holy lead My love has not flown away It simply matured dear heart Would your love celebrate And love me still in God

I think from a poetic stance this is exceptional. I’m glad it causes me to contemplate the topic. I’m not sure why the physical and spiritual need to be separated. I see it as a sacrament and one of God’s greatest blessings. To remove that connection and somehow view it as a higher form of love seems odd to me.

There comes times when the physical is no longer an option such as in illness or natural body changes with later years or in some pursuit of religious study. Of course we have options but if one is unmarried like me and in pursuit of holy aspirations one may decide to more closely walk spiritually without fleshly obstacles or distraction. Now married people often still face this dilemma as time changes desires abilities and or maturity. I admit to studying Christianity AND Buddhism. Christian's view fornication as sin if unmarried even if it is still done. Buddhism teaches sex as a distraction on the path of enlightenment. But it is not frowned upon in marriage. I am still learning but I am growing as I study. Both appeal to me for various reasons. But I am not perfect. So that is why I want a higher love.

A FAV my friend. The depth of your thoughts resonates with my heart, for Love never goes away. How we show our Love may change but Love is eternal. If it isn't, it wasn't true Love. If a relationship is to last throughout the lifetime of a couple, there will be many changes physical, mental, and spiritual that will challenge the way individual define their (love). Your poem asked many of the questions couples are afraid to ask each other when things change in their relationship. Hugs Bill

Yes I agree. Still even as our bodies change we can still cultivate physical touch and intimacy as a way of staying connected with our partners.

a magnificent love poem, Karen. Love doesn't disappear, but the expression of it changes and matures in a relationship. You seem to be addressing that within your eloquently created line. Your words show a lot of growth and wisdom. Have a splendid evening, Sara

The colorful strands of love in your precious penning are truly moving, Karen. This is truly a higher love --- rising, rather than falling in love. Bravo. ~ Gershon
