Hide Me
Sitting here all by myself
I feel this aching need.
I've been here so often.
Then my soul starts to bleed.
Pouring like a summer storm
spills raindrops from the skies.
Water stains the paper
from teardrops in my eyes.
It's not because the life I know
has become too damn demanding.
It's not from sorrow that I face
or a lack of understanding.
It's just a place I sometimes go
as I turn and slip inside me.
Hoping that the hope I know
for a time will somehow hide me.
It's not the painful memories
or that I can go no longer.
I go there when I'm feeling weak
it helps to make me stronger.
To see the scars that dwell within
and chains that used to bind me.
They help to shine a guiding light
for all that they remind me.
Tomorrow I will rise once more
though tonight I take a fall.
Looking back behind me now
I have survived it all.
