Her Greatest Adventure

She said it would be her greatest adventure yet She bore the anguish and suffering meant to get Her to the dock of her departure To her place on an unknown beyond shore, I sat beside her while she quietly suffered without A word of complaint until she slowly drifted away With a long lumbering sigh. Her greatest adventure was to die.

Your comparison of death being a journey, a voyage to the unknown is quality poetry. I admire your skill at creating such a scene.

Thanks, Caren. I made the journey with her, but I couldn't leave the shore.

I've known some who looked on death as an adventure. Unfortunately, getting up to the departure gate can be most trying. This is such a good line, "She bore the anguish and suffering meant to get Her to the dock of her departure."

J., she did, indeed. Never shed a tear or complained during her year-long siege with cancer. She had always said death was her greatest adventure, and she bravely sailed on.
