Heaven's Doorway
Heaven’s Doorway
It was like a moving stairway,
But it wasn’t quite like that.
It was more as though I floated,
Yet my feet were down and flat.
There were people up above me,
There were people down below.
Over all I saw a massive gate
Through which came a golden glow.
I didn’t quite know how I got there,
But I felt so young and free
And I knew that something wonderful
Was waiting there for me.
I didn’t yet know where the people went
After passing through the gate.
I only knew I’d be there very soon
And I could hardly wait.
As I crossed the golden threshold
A lovely being took my hand.
She led me to a group of people
Gathered in a little band.
When the first one turned to greet me,
I saw my darling, precious son.
Next in line his beaming father
And then coming one by one
Were all those here before me.
I could not believe my dazzled eyes.
Everyone who whispered, “Welcome”
Was another big surprise.
They all looked so young and happy
Each one was at his best.
I knew this must be Heaven,
But one dearer than the rest
Had not made his appearance.
I so longed to see his face.
“Where is Jesus? Where is Jesus?
They all moved to make a space.
There he was, my precious Savior,
As I fell down on my knees.
“Stand my child and let me hold you,
If your Savior you would please.”
Tomorrow would be soon enough
For a long look around
To view the startling beauty
Still waiting to be found.
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
I was quite content to stay.
All the wonders of His Heaven
Could wait for another day.
