Heathcliff Kind of Love

Give me Heathcliff kind of love
That haunted Wuthering Heights
Obsessive, demented love
That spoke to her ghost at nights

The love that tore at her grave
To hold her close one more time
The love that lit up his face
Made noble his every crime

Give me Rochester love
Plotting to possess Jane Eyre
That though she was no beauty
He considered dazzling fair

Give to me his scheming love
That gladly would break each rule
That drew from her jealous tear
To prove love though it be cruel

Give Colonel Brandon love
Who fought to win her heart
Though broken by another
Kindness glued back every part

When sick at the brink of death
He was there to nurse her back
Devotion and loyalty
Nothing in him was alack

Give to me this kind of love
That pursues to edge of grave
Maddened and demanding love
That will give it’s all to save

This kind of endearing love
Is what I long for from you
Be it offered now to me
My love you’ll have ever true

Eileen Manassian Ghali

The characters referred to in this poem are taken from three of my favorite classics...Jane Eyre...Wuthering Heights and Sense and Sensibility. I should have mentioned the truthfulness and constancy of Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice....Next time....

Hmmm...A deep sensual poem speaking of love and can be read as love itself. One that could brighten dark places. Nicely written.

Well, we know what happened to Catherine, she broke Healthcliff's heart by marring into wealth....she was ashamed of him, in a sense...He came back and broke her heart...so...Hmmmm, yes. The other two got what they wanted....eventually...So, all in all, not a bad deal....

I love all those stories, but Heathclilff my very favorite. I think it is a romantic fantasy for women to want this kind of love, but in reality, I think it is the kind of love of a 'stalker" (I wonder if there are any NICE stalkers out there!!!) they seem to have the personality of a heathcliff. Your poem is awesome. I think if I got this kind of love, though, I might end up regretting it!! BTW, did you ever see the Wuthering Heights from the early 70's movie? Most gorgeous of the heathcliffs.!

Continued...His heavenly blue eyes that dazzle as he looks at her...His mad desire to have her when she steels her heart against him...How he weeps...angry...devastated...mad...It's just amazing. BTW...I understand what you mean about Heathcliff...Yes, I wanted to portray a certain madness to love that is obsessive...THAT is the beauty of Wuthering Heights...Love destroys them both...but it is a love that goes beyond the grave. Stalkers are obsessive. Negative connotation to that in modern time, you are right...HUGS

THAT was TIMOTHY DALTON. HE AMAZES ME. Yes, he also played Mr Rochester in the BBC version of JANE EYRE. YOU MUST watch it."My cherished perserver...goodnight!" The scene where Jane saves him from the fire that his mad wife has set in his bedroom...there is NO more tender scene than that. The first time we see behind his harsh facade...the tenderness....the way he holds her hand...the way he stumbles to find words...ah...heavenly!

Dreamy wishes, indeed, Nette. That is what legends are made of...that is why writer's write and poets dream...To capture what is illusive...Thanks for the visit. My next time on Drake's show will be to read free verse, but thanks ever so much for the suggestion! :) Hugs
