Heartsong

“Woodland in full color is awesome as a forest fire, in magnitude at least, but a single tree is like a dancing tongue of flame to warm the heart.” - Hal Borland

Shadows fall over the trees in the autumn,
Gentling the ache who grieves for summer,
Silence, still, stirring in the wind,
Who breaths her peace through the limbs, the seas
Of wonderful, praise and grace and endless leaves,
Blowing softly, swirling, dancing eagerly,
Singing to the soul who can see beyond the green,
To those glorious songs of rust and gold,
Autumn’s echo to the heart and soul.

Glistening dew colors life in serenity,
Blessing away the past, the echoes of distress,
Darkening the memories, the beauty of dew touched dreams,
Walking, like hope’s melody, vibrant
Welcoming the heart to breath in the endless grace,
Music that bleeds its intimacy
Laughter trembling and pouring out its thanks
Over the heart who hears God’s voice in the seas,
The thundering storms who arise with their breeze,
The endless joy of knowing heartfelt glory.

Rising on the twilight’s perpetual praises,
Lifting the heart with such gifts, such pleasures,
While the seeds of a song bleed through the dark,
Listening, believing, silencing a heart’s grieving,
As the stars fall quiet on meadows and trails,
Leaving only the mellow feeling of loss,
While each traveler reaches beyond the winds,
To the promise of a peace far sweeter than the seed,
Serenity that never fails to bring its raw light.

Like life, all the blessings are more than I can speak,
They wander through the heart, erasing loneliness,
Reaching into the prayers and praise, startling even me
With the music that they play, the notes so very sweet.
