Heart of Glass
My heart was shiny and new once
Frail but rigid ever vigilant
Catching the light and casting warmth in it’s wake
But as time went on fractures and fissures appeared
Slowly giving way to chips and nicks
Still my heart held on keeping true to form
Remaining solid in times of weakness
Taking every bump and drop with stride
Yet with every drop and knock a little piece gives way
Not noticeable at first
Collecting silently in the bottom of my chest
No glue to bind them back into form
To make what is falling apart whole again
The flaws and damage finally taking their toll
Collapsing the once brilliant heart
Into a pile of shards
Twinkling here and there
A little glimmer of what once was whole
